Global warming is occurring at a pace faster than previously predicted. Human influence on the climate system is increasingly evident. Our actions are creating irreversible impacts on our planet. We are already witnessing catastrophic events of unpredictable weather patterns which are causing unprecedented cyclones, forest fires, droughts & famines.

One of the solutions, and not the only one, is that the importance of knowledge cannot be underestimated. Not just the knowledge about the issue itself and the dangers that it poses, but the policy at different governance levels towards addressing it. Starting an informed discussion about targets, commitments and ambition from a climate lens needs to become not just a drawing room conversation but a voting issue for the youth of the country. That is how effective change can be dreamt of. Why should knowledge be with the few, when the issue affects the whole wide world.

ACTIVITIES CAUSING CLIMATE CHANGE

Fossil Fuel

Consumption

The primary source of man-made greenhouse gas emissions is burning of fossil fuels. Consumption of fossil fuel releases carbon content trapped in fuel that has developed over millions of years. The emissions consist of a majority of Carbon Dioxide and small amounts of Methane and Nitrous Oxide. carbon content trapped in fuel that has developed over million of years.

Deforestation & Land

Use Change

Soil and trees hold a significant amount of carbon. The conversion of carbon rich environments such as forests or peatlands to uses such as agriculture that hold lesser carbon is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Here the carbon is not sequestered by forests and peatlands, but instead it gets released into the atmosphere.

Livestock

Farming & Agriculture

Livestock farming, especially cattle rearing, causes natural release of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions primarily from feed production & processing, digestion, and manure decomposition. Significant GHG emissions also occur through inappropriate farming and grazing practices that cause large amounts of deforestation and accelerate soil erosion.

Manufacturing Material

Emissions

Industrial manufacturing of products is energy and process intensive which translates to high GHG emissions. They happen to be higher than emissions produced during the use of the products and therefore a vital area to reduce emissions in. Emissions from manufacturing materials has increased enormously by 120% between 1995 to 2015.

Our oceans act as natural carbon sinks that absorb huge amounts of carbon dioxide, and prevent CO2 from reaching the atmosphere. Increasing water temperatures and CO2 concentrations are making our oceans

more acidic.

Resource Depeletion

Over-population and industrialization have resulted in the scarcity of natural resources through over-exploitation of fuel, food and water resources. Our consumption pattern has exceeded nature's capacity to

replenish resources.

Climate Refugees Emissions

The number of climate refugees are on the rise. Sudden climatic changes adversely affect people's lives and living conditions, which has caused them to leave their homes, either temporarily or permanently, and move within their country or abroad.
