Ms. Hana Brixi

Dr. Hana Brixi is currently on a two-year leave from the World Bank, heading the Economic and Social Policy Section in UNICEF China Office. She is leading UNICEF’s strategic partnerships and policy dialogue with China’s government counterparts, and manages a program to contribute to social and economic policy development in China.

Concurrently, she is a Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University, School of Public Policy and Management, in Beijing
During 2004-2007, she led the Health Sector Development Unit at WHO Office in China. In this capacity (appointed under World Bank Staff Exchange Program), she contributed to the design of China’s massive health system reform launched in 2006.
Since 1995, Dr. Brixi has served as World Bank Economist. In 2001-2004, she led the Bank’s economic sector work in China and was the lead author of the flagship report Promoting Growth with Equity. Prior to her China assignment, she managed the Bank’s work on public sector governance in Europe and Asia, and led the Bank-wide Quality of Fiscal Adjustment Thematic Group, promoting innovation in public finance.

Dr. Brixi’s research is covering public finance, public management and social service delivery. Her publications include book Government at Risk (Oxford University Press).

Dr. Brixi holds graduate degree in public policy and economics from Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University; post-graduate certificate in finance from the Sloan Business School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); and a PhD in physics from Masaryk University, Czech Republic.
